Independent Traveller Insurance.
Over the last 10 years many of us have been changing
the way we book holidays. In the past most people used a travel agent to book a
package holiday where the flights, transfers and hotels were provided by the
same company.
The growth in the internet and budget airlines has led
to many more people, booking flights, hotels, villas and car hire direct. These
travellers are called independent travellers.
Unfortunately many travel insurance policies do not
cover independent travellers for things like a Volcano erupting and airspace being
closed due to an ash cloud, Airports being closed due to snow, fog or strikes,
or even events like airlines or hotels going bust. In these circumstances independent
travellers can be left out of pocket as although the cost of emergency
accommodation while waiting for a flight can be reclaimed from an airline,
money lost as a result of cancelling a hotel at the other end cannot.
To make sure you are not left out of pocket you need to
add what is called independent traveller insurance to the policy. Many travel
insurance companies do not offer this option but the companies below do.
